The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) plans to host a public crypto roundtable on Friday, October 17. The event will go from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the SEC headquarters in the nation’s capital. The meetings will seek to provide opportunities for additional stakeholders and public customers to meet with Commissioner Hester Peirce, who leads the Crypto Task Force.

“We want to hear from people who were not able to travel for the roundtables that took place this past spring in Washington, D.C., and may not have had a voice in past policymaking efforts,” said Commissioner Peirce. “The Crypto Task Force is acutely aware that any regulatory framework will have far-reaching effects, and we want to ensure that our outreach is as comprehensive as possible.”

The SEC first announced the crypto roundtable meetings earlier in the summer, revealing numerous dates for meetings. However, this one will notably be open to the public for anyone interested in joining in person. “Technology that helps Americans protect their privacy is critically important as it enables people to choose when and with whom to share sensitive data about themselves so they can be protected from bad actors,” said Commissioner Hester M. Peirce. “Understanding recent developments in privacy-protecting tools will assist the SEC and other financial regulators as we work on policy solutions in the crypto space.”

According to the SEC, the Financial Surveillance and Privacy Roundtable will bring together panelists who are at the forefront of developing technologies designed to protect individual privacy. It will also facilitate an in-depth discussion on policy matters related to financial surveillance. Per the regulator, Commissioner Peirce will be speaking at DC Fintech Week and the DC Privacy Summit preceding the roundtable.

Members of the public are able to communicate directly on this and other topics and request a meeting with the Crypto Task Force.
