Elon Musk took to Twitter on Friday to proclaim that the social media giant will likely launch its delayed “Verified” service next week. The same will entail different colored checks depending on the type of account.

The Classification

The new Twitter executive said there would be a “gold check” for companies, a grey-colored one for government accounts, and the existing blue one for individuals, irrespective of their celebrity status.

Alongside, Musk said that all verified accounts will be “manually authenticated” before the check is activated. The executive called the move “Painful, but necessary”

Musk further clarified,

All verified individual humans will have same blue check, as boundary of what constitutes “notable” is otherwise too subjective. Individuals can have secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an org if verified as such by that org.

On its part, the subscription service is Musk’s attempt to find a new revenue stream. Earlier today Robert Reich, the co-founder of Inequality Media, stated that Musk was “actively destroying” what he bought by firing and driving off the company’s workforce.

Post-labeling the said theory “interesting,” Musk asked Reich to pay $8.

Earlier, Musk was forced to pause the $8 per month Blue service that allowed anyone to pay the subscription for the blue verification tick. The same was halted after users abused the system by impersonating notable public figures and brands.

The company, on its part, is currently coping with the mass exit of employees. Owing to Musk’s “extremely hardcore” environment, hundreds of employees put down their papers last week and bid adieu to the company.
