Analysts at Bank of America are raving about Walmart (WMT) stock right now, saying the AI boom could hugely benefit the retail giant. BofA said on March 6 that it views the OpenAI news as a net positive for Walmart. The firm wrote that the change has the potential to bring about an integrated commerce solution resembling the company’s previously announced partnership with Google’s Gemini in January.
Bank of America went on to reiterate a Buy rating on Walmart (WMT) stock with a $150 price target. This would reflect an approximate 20% gain from the stock’s current price of $125. The firm added that once the company’s own platform “Sparky” is integrated into the AI platform, it should have an advantage in search results, boosting revenue and hence share price.
In 2024 and 2025, Walmart closed the gap with Amazon, especially in e-commerce. As a result, WMT stock has outperformed Amazon’s in the past year by nearly 30% growth. However, before this update, Amazon reigned supreme thanks to its profits from and investments in artificial intelligence. Now though, analysts at BofA and across Wall Street appear ready to swing back towards the retail powerhouse, which is also coming off a solid earnings report.

Walmart reported Q3 revenue growth of 6% in constant currency and adjusted operating income up 8%, outperforming expectations. E-commerce surged 27%, advertising grew 53%, and international sales rose 11.4%. Management raised full-year sales and operating income guidance, citing strong Q4 momentum and business mix benefits. The next quarterly results will come in early May 2026.
Furthermore, new CEO John Furner has praised AI and sees it as the future of Walmart. The CEO thinks AI will be able to help associates, and Walmart is partnering with Google to help improve their skills as the retail giant grants 1.6 million employees access to an eight-hour course on the fundamentals of AI through Google’s new AI Professional Certification. Furner hasn’t been shy about voicing his enthusiasm for AI either. Speaking during the 2025 Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Park City, Utah, Furner said he talks to AI “every morning” and encourages Walmart associates to use the tech to improve their workflows.
