Even in the world of digital apes and other alluring creatures, bears ruled in 2022. The NFT market could not shield itself from the broader slump this year. As a result, most of the top collections treaded on the downtrend path.
That said, all hope isn’t lost yet. A recent Coinbase report chalked out that the 2022 NFT slump is healthy. It also asserted that NFT adoption is still in “early stages.”
Over the past day, three out of the top five NFT sales were from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection. An NFT from the Azuki collection also found a place for itself on the list. Users ended up forking out funds in the range of $304k to $152k to acquire these digital tokens.

The NFT Trend This Year
As illustrated below, the top NFT mentions this year included words, phrases, and hashtags like ‘bayc,’ ‘boredapeyc,’ ‘bayc,’ ‘eth,’ ‘mayc,’ ‘floor,’ ‘twitter cryptopunks’ ‘moonbirds,’ ‘nftcommunity,’ etc.
Even though the tags associated with the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection seem to be prominently dominant, it is worth noting that the said collection couldn’t make a cut to the top spot. Based on the social engagement stats compiled by LunarCrush, Azuki ranked one.
That was followed by Bored Ape and then Gary Vaynerchuk’s NFT collection VeeFriends. The Goblin Town collection was also a part of the list. They were launched in mid-May 2022 and rose to the top of the charts quickly. In fact, at that time, its trade volume stood second, next to BAYC.
Alongside, Moonbirds also fluttered their way into the top 10 list. As such, the said NFT artwork collection comprises a total of 10,000 computer-generated pixel owl avatars. Post-launch, they were all instantly sold out for a mint price of 2.5 Ethereum per NFT.
Leaving aside the above-highlighted collections, Axie Infinity, MAYC, Gutter Cat Gang, and Sorare NFTs are also featured on the list.

Last on the list stood Yuga Labs’ Otherdeed for Otherside NFT collection. The BAYC Metaverse Otherside is considered to be one of the most prolific NFTs ever and mints were flying off the shelves post the launch.
In fact, in May, the weekly NFT volume on Ethereum claimed $1.6 billion, thanks to Otherdeed for Otherside. That helped in pulling up the aggregate worth of NFTs minted and traded on the platform to $23.7 billion.
