Not just the Ethereum community, but the whole crypto realm is waiting for the much-awaited merge update.
September will be a very exciting month for the Ethereum [ETH] network. The community, together with the users and clients of the network, has been preparing for the merge as it finally approaches. Unfortunately, the network’s switch to Proof-of-Stake [PoS] from Proof-of-Work [PoW] would be extremely bad for the network’s miners.
The announcement of the final merge dates has been given out by the Ethereum Foundation. But before the merge, one major update for the network is pending. That is the Bellatrix upgrade. Here is when the final Ethereum Update is expected to happen before the merge.
Ethereum’s Bellatrix update will happen on September 6
The Merge is not going to be a single-step process. It will be a double-step process that is classified as the Bellatrix network upgrade and the Paris upgrade. The Bellatrix upgrade will be the final update before the merge.
The Ethereum testnet went through several public testnets, including the Ropsten, Sepolia, and Goerli. The Ethereum Foundation states the Bellatrix as a network upgrade. Bellatrix is also the last update before the merge completes with the Paris upgrade.
September 6, 2022, 11:34:47am UTC is the time set for the Bellatrix upgrade to go live. After this update, all that will be left is the final execution layer of the transition. This is the Paris upgrade that will happen between September 10 and 20, 2022.
The Merge will go down as one of the most notable upgrades to the second-largest cryptocurrency in the world. Ethereum also acts as the base for dApps and several NFTs and will have a significant impact on the ecosystem. A proper assessment of the exact impact of the merge on the price of ETH and the crypto realm can only be done post-merge. The transition from PoW to PoS is said to make the network 99% energy efficient.
