Following a stabbing in San Francisco, Bob Lee, the former chief technology officer of Square and the founder of Cash App, has passed away. Lee’s demise was confirmed in the early hours of Tuesday, April 4.
Bill Barhydt, the CEO of the cryptocurrency wallet firm Abra, shared the news about the Cash App creator and former Square CTO’s death via Twitter on April 5. Barhydt also shared a report about Lee’s death, which did not name him.
The report shared by Berhydt was from the San Fransisco Police Department. The report explained that police responded to a stabbing at approximately 2:35 am local time. The police found a “43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.”
The report also stated that officers assisted the injured and called for medical assistance. With life-threatening injuries, the victim was sent to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency responders and medical professionals, the man passed away from his wounds. At press time, police have not made any arrests so far, or released any information about any suspects.
People mourn for the Cash App creator and former Square CTO
Jack Dorsey also announced Lee’s passing on the decentralized social media site Nostr. Dorsey not only created Twitter, but he is also the co-founder of Block, Inc., the developer of the Square financial services platform. Dorsey confirmed Lee’s death by saying “It’s real. Getting calls.” Dorsey also mentioned that the situation was “Heartbreaking,” and Lee was “instrumental to Square and Cash App.”
Furthermore, on April 5, former UFC fighter Jake Shields tweeted about the murder of a “good friend” in a “good” San Francisco area. Later on, he revealed the identity of his friend as Lee. Shields said that he hopes the situation will help bring attention to such problems as Lee was “extremely high profile.”
