Axie Infinity is one of the most popular non-fungible tokens (NFT) play-to-earn games. The game was developed by a Vietnam-based company, Sky Mavis, and launched in March 2018.
One of the primary goals of the Axie Infinity game is to breed digital pets called “Axies.” These Axies are NFTs, each with unique attributes, and users can even choose to sell their Axies to other players. However, breeding an Axie is no ordinary task; it requires some knowledge, and the steps are not always clear. With that said, let’s take a look at it.
How to breed Axies in Axie Infinity
Before breeding a new Axie in the Axie Infinity game, players will first require two fertile and compatible Axies, to begin with. Apart from two compatible Axies, players will also need Smooth Love Potions (SLPs) and AXS, the native token of the game.
To breed new Axies, users first need to navigate to their inventory via the dashboard. Players can select the Axie they want to breed and click the “breed” button. Players will then be directed to a new window where they must choose the second Axie with which they want to breed the first one. Once selected, players can click on the “Let’s Breed” button.
Players will then receive an egg from the breeding process. The egg requires 24 hours to hatch. Once hatched, a larva is born, transforming into a petite. Players will see the creatures’ class traits and genes in the petite stage. After 48 hours, the petite will morph into an Axie. However, players of Axie Infinity need to pay a small fee to complete the morphing process. Which begs the question…
How much does it cost to breed Axies?
An update from developers Sky Mavis increased the fee to breed Axies three times over. A player needs 0.5 AXS (formerly 1 AXS) and a certain quantity of SLP based on the breeding count of the Axie.
Some of the costs involved can be seen in the image below.
At press time, AXS was trading at $18.26, down by 6.9% in the last 24 hours. Moreover, the token is 88.9% down from its all-time high of $164.90, which it attained in November of 2021. Nonetheless, the token is 30.5% up in the 30-day chart.
The Axie Infinity game was subject to one of the biggest hacks in crypto when its Ronin bridge was compromised for over $600 million. Many have traced the exploit to the North Korean hacking group Lazarus.
