Elon Musk’s Neuralink plans to implant a chip into the human brain. The controversial chip enables users to control their phones, make purchases, and pay bills, by simply thinking about it. Most importantly, even people with brain injury will be able to communicate their thoughts with others through phones or computers. In this article, we will explain what is Neuralink and how it works to help users to purchase items by simply thinking about it.

Though this concept sounds like a 1970’s science fiction novel, it’s a real development unfolding in this time and era.

First and foremost, Neuralink is much more deeper and fascinating than science fiction as the concept is as real as it gets. The idea that people can control their phones and computers by using their thoughts gives goosebumps and the jitters equally.

The barter system was the first form of payment that existed in the pre-historic days. Then came fiat, cheques, credit and debit cards, bank transfer, online payments, and finally cryptocurrencies. Last but not least, the payment systems will come from Elon Musk’s Neuralink, where users can clear bills by simply thinking.

The company has been experimenting with the theory on monkeys and applied for FDA approval this year. If approved, the next set of trials would begin on humans and will not only record brain activity but will also stimulate it.

How Does It Work?

So if you’re still wondering how does Neuralink really work? Well, here you go! Imagine you plan to visit Hawaii and stay at a hotel nearby the beach. While previously you walked into the hotel and the receptionist offered you a card swipe for payment, with Neuralink, it’s different.

The receptionist will bring out a futuristic ‘point-of-sale device’ and with the Neuralink chip embedded in your brain, the transaction will be complete by simply thinking about paying. The transaction will be complete even without using your card or mobile phone.

The future is of course cool but also feels weird at the same time. What would happen if the ‘point-of-sale device’ is brought in front of us and we don’t think of paying for their service? We’re sure there would be a different mechanism but thoughts can go in any direction as we please.

Also, Elon Musk already thinks that the human population is cyborgs and Neuralink will bridge the gap between technology and thoughts.

“Your phone and computer are extensions of yourself. If you leave your phone behind, you end up tapping your pockets. It is like having missing-limb syndrome. You’re used to interfacing with it, and you’re used to being a de facto cyborg,” he said.
